Belarus: referendum to extend presidential term

The Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus has proposed to hold such a referendum.

The referendum is going to be held in 2018, at the same time with the election of deputies to local councils. The initiators of this referendum think that the presidential term should be extended to 7 years, and the deputy one is to 5 years.

The Liberal Democratic Party said: «These changes will strengthen the political system of Belarus and will lead to further democratization and the development of civil society».
