Recep Tayyip Erdogan to US: choose either Gulen or Turkey

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on the United States to extradite US-based opposition cleric Fethullah Gulen who is tied to the failed military coup in the country last month.

Addressing thousands of government supporters outside the presidential palace in the capital Ankara on Wednesday, Erdogan stated that Washington must make a choice between Turkey and Gulen.

“Sooner or later, the United States will make a choice. Either Turkey or FETO. They will either choose the putschist terrorist FETO or Turkey, the democratic country. They need to make a choice,” Erdogan said.

He said that Turkey has sent “eighty five boxes of files” to Washington to prove Gulen’s alleged role in the failed coup.

Washington has so far refused to return Gulen to Turkey, saying it needs evidence of his involvement in the military revolt.

Background on this from Katehon:

The military coup has obvious geopolitical implications. It comes after a sharp reversal in the direction of the relations of Turkey and Russia and changes on the Syrian issue made by the country's leaders . On last eve Binali Yildirim said that Turkey intends to restore relations with official Damascus. In essence, this would mean a radical change of the whole geopolitical situation on the Syrian issue and the collapse of the US strategy in the region. Before that Erdogan removed Ahmet Davutoglu from the country's leadership.  US realized that Erdogan decided to change the geopolitical course. United States decided to act and use their networks of influence in military circles, to initiate a coup.
